Varicose Vein Removal with salt solution
Note: If you have written examination results (no images) from a phlebologist regarding the functionality of your leg vein system, please bring these with you to your treatment appointment!
For therapists: The basic training in varicose vein removal can be completed with me. If you are interested, please contact me by telephone or send me a letter by email.
The season of the year does not matter for this method!
The foundations for the biological removal of varicose veins using saline solution were laid almost one hundred years ago by Prof. Paul Linser, who was looking for a gentle method to remove varicose veins without surgery. Dr. Max-Otto Bruker, probably one of the best-known German naturopaths, also treated over 20,000 patients in this way. (In the meantime, well over 1,000,000 patients have been treated with concentrated saline solution). Dr. Köster has further developed this application, making it the most natural and elegant way of removing varicose veins currently available.
Varicose vein sclerotherapy as an alternative to conventional methods
In Dr. Köster's method, a saline solution of up to 27%, i.e. concentrated salt water, is injected into the affected vein; the cell walls then begin to suck up water in a flash, causing the innermost layer of the varicose vein to practically burst. This in turn causes the body to close the veins and break them down within a few months.
In the past, this type of varicose vein sclerotherapy or “sclerotherapy” ran the risk of destroying healthy tissue surrounding the varicose vein if the injection needle missed its target or slipped during the injection process. The resulting tissue necrosis (i.e. local ulceration) was an unpleasant complication, but Dr. Köster's modifications and the fine cannulas available today have virtually eliminated this risk.
A varicose vein treated in this way scleroses, i.e. it closes and forms a firm cord within minutes to seven days, which is gradually broken down by the immune system, similar to a bump or bruise. This process takes several months; most of it is usually invisible after six months. Finally, the obliterated varicose vein has completely disappeared.
It is estimated that around 30% of the population in Germany are affected by varicose veins. Some people only see their varicose veins as a cosmetic problem; others experience more serious health problems, including inflammation of the veins (thrombophlebitis) and leg ulcers.
Rapid physical reactivation after sclerotherapy of varicose veins
With the biologically gentle removal of varicose veins, Dr. Köster has developed a procedure that allows patients to stand and walk again immediately after the treatment and to quickly return to everyday life without the need for irritating support or compression stockings, scars, anaesthesia, risk of allergies, injury to blood vessels, nerves or lymph vessels and usually without a long period of sick leave. Relatively complex varicose vein systems in the legs can be removed cleanly and safely using a substance produced naturally in the body. Although the injection of the saline solution can cause a strong stimulus, which is usually perceived as a cramp-like pulling or burning sensation, this disappears after 90 seconds at the latest.
Sclerosing varicose veins is the cheapest option - but not every insurance company covers
If there are no major health restrictions or very large varicose veins are removed, most patients can go back to work the next day without any problems. The costs involved are comparatively low: around €350 per vein system (usually per leg) must be charged for the biologically gentle removal of varicose veins. Unfortunately, these costs are often only covered by private health insurance companies; statutory health insurance companies normally only pay the costs for the stripping operation. Talk to your insurance company and ask about the possibilities of cost coverage (as there have already been some exceptions)!
